Benefits of Pre and Post-Partum Massages

what all mothers knead

After learning you are pregnant, a few lifestyle changes will have to be set in motion. For Velda Tan, one thing she was sad to give up was her weekly massages. As a fashion entrepreneur with a series of successful clothing brands, Velda relied on a routine rubdown to keep her body and mind relaxed. With a baby growing inside of her, a way to unwind and decompress became more and more vital. Thankfully for her, she discovered Madam Partum.

As a believer in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Velda thought Madam Partum’s affiliation with TCM Healthcare Provider Chien Chi Tow would be the best fit for her and her growing baby. “I tried the Western ones, like Swedish [massage], but I don’t think it helps aches and pains. It just relaxes you for the day and the aches come back again,” says Velda. “I think the TCM way is more effective when it comes to eliminating pain. The next day you do experience some soreness, but then you feel relieved, like a whole weight is lifted.” Having experienced the benefits and seen the remarkable results, Velda has extended her 90-minute sessions to two hours. The massages take place in the comfort of her own home where she doesn’t have to fuss about dressing up.

Yen Lim, director and founder of Madam Partum and a mother-of-two, recommends that mothers follow Velda’s lead and begin pre-natal massages instead of jumping straight into post-natal massage after giving birth. “Pre-natal massages offer many benefits”, says Yen, “such as stimulating blood circulation, reducing water retention, and helping expectant mothers sleep better.”

One of the advantages of the pre-partum massage is to help mothers prepare for breastfeeding. Yen explains that Madam Partum helps ease away the lumps that develop in our breasts during pregnancy, ensuring mums have an easier time nursing their baby when they arrive. “In my experience, mummies who start from pre-partum massages have a better and easier time with breastfeeding,” says Yen. “Some even have milk flowing on the first day and don’t experience engorgement even three months in.”

After birth, mothers can return for their postpartum massage as soon as the first week. Mothers who have had caesarean births can also start with a lactation massage first. Madam Partum’s postpartum massages focuses on complete recuperation: from womb recovery, qi and blood replenishment, to regaining vitality and slimming.

Velda shares that all through her experience with Madam Partum, she has been impressed with the level of care and attention given to ensure mothers feel comfortable. While mothers are generally advised to have at least 90-minute sessions, the treatments at Madam Partum are completely customisable as they understand that every mother has different needs and concerns. With effective treatments and meticulous care, Madam Partum is truly the key to a happy and healthy pre- and post-partum experience.

PRE-PACKAGED WELLNESS

With deep roots in TCM, Madam Partum also provides mothers with 28-day herbal products to help them regain their strength and energy. Each package contains herbal soups, teas or baths that serve a specific purpose, such as to remove lochia, help lactation, and aid in womb recovery. Each comes individually wrapped with a set of instructions mothers or their confinement nannies can prepare them with ease. For more information, please visit http://parentsworld.com.sg/2018/01/26/what-all-mothers-knead/
