Summary of IG Live | Saturday Night with Yen X Rachel
Rachel’s Pregnancy Journey
What is motherhood? What does it mean to be a mother? These questions are as challenging to answer as they are simple. But being a mother is also about much more than that, isn’t it? There’s some large, overwhelming, and beautiful piece at the center of motherhood that is so hard to put words to. It’s a wonderful journey to witness your changes and find out your strength being a mother. And it will be all worth it!
Enjoy the process and be present
There are times when I feel discouraged or when times are tough, I will remind myself that it will get better.
Be intentional in learning more about yourself
- Learn new things that you never knew about yourself
- Witness how you evolve and expand in capacity
Reading up on the different stages of pregnancy
- Educating and equipping yourself with knowledge
- Knowing that what is happening to you is completely normal so you won’t panic
Self Love and Self Reflection
Boils down to soaking in the season and taking the time to reflect and remember what you have learnt
Tell yourself that you are enough even when the road is bumpy and even whilst everyone’s journey is different. Embrace it!
Wardrobe for Breastfeeding and Going back to work
Many first-time breastfeeding mothers are unsure about how to prepare their wardrobe when they are going back to work and to continue their breastfeeding regime at the same time. On our last IG Live with @ms_rach , co-founder of @lovebonito , and @yenlim__ shared functional tips on what to wear and how to look great at work!
Button Top or Dress
Professional and provides easy access to the breast for nursing or pumping, so it’s one of the better choices when you are going back to work.
Wrapped around Dress
A wrapped around dress can adjust to your body shape, so you can wear them while getting back in shape.
Other consideration
You may look for bras and clothes with easy access to your breasts with consideration of the size of your breasts so that you can wear to pump or nurse your baby.
Nursing Bra
Wearing a nursing bra back to work allows easy access to your breast to pump.
Milk-Saver Shell & Bag
It’s also recommended to wear your nursing bra with Breast Shell to collect any leakages and avoid embarrassing moments when your letdown leaks through your bra and onto your clothes. You can then store those letdowns into a Storage Bag for your baby.
Shawl | Cardigan | Jacket
A cardigan or shawl is a good way to add a fashionable layer on top of your top or dresses. It also allows you to cover yourself when you pump at work or nurse your baby. Another benefit is that it will cover up any stain from milk, baby vomit and other random sticky substances. Other than that, it helps provide an additional layer of clothing for mothers who are afraid of cold.
Nursing Cover
A nursing cover protects your privacy while you pump as work at your desk, it will be helpful if you are pumping on-the-go, so getting one might be a good choice.
Choosing the right material
You will feel warmer due to the extra blood being pumped around your body, so get breathable clothes to make you feel more comfortable. Material containing spandex will provide extra stretch to accommodate your body.
Avoid choosing tight clothes
Avoid tight clothes as this might cause you to feel uncomfortable, especially for breastfeeding mothers, this might cause you to suffer engorgement or blocked milk ducts.
Colour is important
When picking out pieces for your wardrobe, keep in mind that patterns, prints, and darker colours will help hide any unexpected leaks much better than solids or light colours.
